What really IS creativity?
Creativity has come up multiple times for me over the past handful of days which led to me thinking. . .
What really IS creativity?
For a long time, I thought it was directly related to things like art and design and I think that’s why I have kept coming back to web design work.
As I’ve been reflecting on that question above, I’ve considered that creativity isn’t solely related to artistic work, even though that’s the most common idea.
In fact, creativity is defined as: the use of imagination or original ideas.
And it’s synonyms give us an even broader definition: inventiveness, imagination, innovation, originality, individuality, initiative, resourcefulness.
When I looked deeper, I realized that for me, and I’m guessing many others, creativity is in the way I do things. In the HOW. In the WHAT.
Not necessarily the medium – artistic work.
It’s the way we lead. In the way we develop ideas and systems and tools. The way we think.
And so it’s become clear that creativity is IN the work I do – it’s IN the strategy, IN the productivity, IN the writing, IN the coaching.
Don’t get me wrong – I love art. I love design. I love building websites and course platforms and all that cool stuff.
But I’ve had it all wrong – design work is NOT my creative work. It is not my creative outlet.
BEING in connection with others and helping them connect the dots to THEIR work is my creativity.
Connecting people to their dreams and their desires and their inner alchemy.
THAT is my creativity.
Knowing this, feeling this, is such a fucking relief. Like, such a huge relief, I feel like taking a nap now LOL
I won’t stop doing design work but I am shifting my focus to only doing design projects by referral or for past and current clients.
